It's perfect length-wise! So far, to my knowledge, at least. I finished doing the detail work on Mesopotamia, and all seemed good!
...Until I started doing the detail revision/expansion using Rise of Rome...and discovered that the Scythian start point's (by that I mean Tsagan Aman) in the top sixth of the map.
I have 18 free tiles to the north.
The original map needed 22.
...And other maps go further north than Rise of Rome do.
...Did I mention that, to my knowledge, there's no way to copy a current map into a larger sized map?
No such thing as copy-paste for the terrain.
So all that work I did.
All those hours.
A good half if not more of the map done.
Like in a 200 x 200 map with 40,000 tiles, having done something like 15-25,000 of them.
...Down the drain.
...Because the map needs to be bigger.
...And there's no way to make it bigger except for starting from scratch.
...Sometimes I really hate trial and error.
Next try, a 250 x 200 (or, 200 x 250, whichever the y is for) map.
After I just.
Take a moment.
To sigh.
And shake my head in temporary defeat.
