I've been rooting for them since the beginning and I especially loved their win against Team Liquid yesterday and felt they smashed that game at every opportunity--they won in draft, they won in play, they just won.
But I came home to a baron fight with a missed protobelt attempted steal which 100 Thieves needed to not just lose, and since it missed, they lost. I didn't see their draft, but while I could tell there were loosely equivalent matchups in most of the map, in NA, Aphelios > Senna (even if this plus MF is the Xayah, Kai'sa, Sivir of 2020 where all of them are considered S-tier), and in toplane, I believe Cho'gath usually smashes Gangplank, so I could tell that 100 Thieves had a slightly weaker draft today and it'd require them to have played better the whole game to win.
And while I don't know how they didn't play worse since I didn't see it, obviously, they didn't play better. From the brief highlights they showed at the end, it seems that in the skill-based matchups, they lost, and in the matchups they had the disadvantage in, they got smashed in. So that's disappointing overall. Oh well.
It's not like Immortals are a team I don't want to see win and it's not like Immortals are a bad team. I have no doubts they earned that win and I can't be too terribly upset about it because I know they're good, I don't want them to lose, I understand more or less why they won even if I didn't see the match, with them being good, having a good draft, and just presumably playing better on the day, compared to 100 Thieves.
It's just disappointing because as I mentioned...
...I really want 100 Thieves to win, dangit.
In GG versus TSM, this is more or less a match that is between two of the teams that are like Immortals--I don't want either of them to lose, but I'm also not rooting for them unless they're up against someone I do want to lose. I think both teams are good.
For that matter, all of the matches this day except for the 100 Thieves versus Immortals, are of a mirrored composition on both sides.
In Golden Guardians versus TSM, nothing against either team, both are good, but I'm not really rooting for either or anti-rooting for either in wanting them to lose.
In Dignitas versus Cloud 9, whoever wins, I still lose because I want both of them to win and I don't want either of them to lose and both teams are absurdly good. I think that, overall, for the sake of Dignitas, I need them to win more, because C9 can take a loss and still win big, whereas Dignitas has had a dangerously high number of losses so if they lose again...they may not recover from that downward spiral and I don't want such a good team with the potential they've shown to take that plummet. But, I do want them to both win and it'll still suck to see one of them lose, no matter what. Forced to choose, like I said, I think Dignitas need the win more than C9 do so I'll root for Dignitas over Cloud9 but I don't really want Cloud9 to lose.
In Flyquest versus Evil Geniuses, I want both teams to lose, so whoever loses, I still win, but also whoever wins, I still lose because that's them having a win I don't want them to have. I said in a prior blog the rankings of the three teams I wanted to lose. I believe it was Flyquest > Evil Geniuses > TL which would mean of the two, the lesser of two evils would be Flyquest winning?
But, anyway. GG versus TSM is starting so going to post this blog now.
Like I said: not really invested in any results, but still gonna watch anyway. I suppose I may root for GG just so that they're less bottom of the barrel? They were one of my top six teams last year, after all.
