...And I got not one, not two, not three, but FIVE messages saying that Chrome had crashed. Pain to deal with, especially since I'm planning on closing Chrome for vacation...but not until AFTER we had gotten there, in case there was any last-minute thing I wanted to take care of. In other words, I had to relaunch, since I'm still USING it, but less than 24 hours from now, I'll be needing to close it.
It's been far more bothersome to fix this time than normal for some reason, but oh well. Gives me the time to type about what I've been doing basically all day: writing. Lots of it. I'm still on the first chapter of Part Two, but it's a long chapter. I'm only about half-way through. Now, the edits I'm doing are pathetically basic. There's far too many repeats of sentence structure and even word usage. I space them out just fine, but screw spacing. What I need more of is variety and synonyms, which since I've noticed it I'm trying to fit into the narrative naturally.
There's certain things I'm beginning to try and get more of into there as well, though the primary purpose of the writing is to break up the boring dialog back-and-forth quote walls that have been there. Now as I just said, I'm still thinking it's boring back-and-forth just with spiced-up flavor, but it's a start, better than nothing, and I already think it's adding a bunch.
As just a start? Well, me, as the writer and creator, I already know the characters and whether they're meant to be liked or disliked, and general factoids about them, and also the circumstances behind what they are currently discussing (more or less, anyway), moreso than the audience ever could. At least at that point in the story.
In spite of that inherent bias...looking at just the stuff that's there, I think I am successfully conveying more or less the intention that I'm going for. The likable characters are likable in the ways I want them to be, and the characters not to be liked are not very likable, and it's easy to see how things are being set up. It's so...well, good, in spite of being bad. In other words, while I think my technical writing right now is in need of some serious improvement, my ability to convey the scene, the atmosphere I want to show, is absolutely perfect right now.
