But what I came to talk about was what happened today. See, I had accumulated over 100,000 gold in preparation for me leveling up to Level 24, which I was just a few energy short of doing. Any leftovers from the upgrades I knew were incoming I'd place into my socketing efforts once more.
...Then, on my desktop, I noticed that I was in my League battle just about to face off against rank #2 guy, when I'm rank #3, in the final day of Expert's. Now, mind you...I started the Expert's League as #2, and actually BEAT #1 on D1. I only was #2 because I lost to then-#3. Then on D2, I lost to both of them, bumping me down. So here I was...with the absolute perfect timing...and I knew what to do.
I rushed to Zocia first, keyed in on her items--none available for upgrade. Then, on Kathera--I found an Axe that was dirt-cheap yet triple-high-level-earth-gemmed. Now, there was a problem, in that it was a Willpower Axe when Kathera has been geared to Gigantic Axes (LUCK+STRENGTH), buuuuuuuuuuuuuut, I figured the tradeoff would be worth it (though I now owe her 4 luck and 4 strength I need to make up somehow), and moved on. Edith, I checked, but while I found a couple of items I could make work (specifically, by reversing the types on her helmet and leggings, I'd elevate both), but with the need to socket two items, and running a bit low on cash, I couldn't.
Instead, I made a huge investment in Brina. She needs socketed leggings as a result of said investment, but it worked to upgrade her quite a bit. The result?
On the third and final day, I barely scraped by a win...and spent literally every single gold coin I had. No, seriously, down to the last one. I can even describe it, too. I had no clue this happened, but when you go to zero on gold, the symbol for the gold disappears. There's just this empty void of space on the resources bar, where the gold should be. I sunk my entire treasury in an impulsive decision that ultimately is rather petty since in all probability I still won't win the league (though 3rd is still getting promoted to Masters) even remotely.
...Worth it.
Of course, then I had to deal with being absolutely broke once I leveled up, and with an awkwardly-arranged inventory, which will remain awkwardly-arranged until I'm able to fully process all the things that I messed up with my snap-decision. I have a spare L5 Wind Gem, just waiting to be placed into an item, but that is frustratingly the mother of all socketing failures, since it's on Zocia's armor and I've failed 11 times. Frankly, it'd be cheaper to just get a L21 or L24 blue armor (since that's what she's got) of the same type, but I lack the L5 Earth Gem in there already. And my Earth Gems aren't even close to L5. (I have an L3 and an L2.)
And that socketing attempt will have to wait until I've done all the upgrades for Lord level-24, of which there are plenty. All-in-all, I've got a ton of work to do and basically zero organization in doing it since my plan to tackle all of these things fell apart when I decided to sink my entire treasury into said vanity. Still felt good, though!
In other gaming news, in Clicker Heroes, I just progressed 15 levels today. I was already at the stage (albeit barely) where I could probably have progressed last night...but the gold I accumulated allowed me to buy a few level-ups for Terra, one of the new heroes, and that doubled my damage. So I cruised through the levels and frankly am not far from progressing five more given how much gold I gain in a day and how easy it is becoming to significantly boost my damage. (Particularly given that Terra's a new hero to me, thus, upgrades are relatively cheap.) I mean, per minute, I'm making 5.somethingoranother-e68 gold, when Terra's level-ups currently only cost a little -e70, and Terra's making up 77% of my DPS right now. (I'm on level 764, for the curious.)
Also, all of my heroes (Save Amenhotep, Frostleaf, Terra, and, obviously, Cid) have been gilded at least once, thus, all my heroes (save Amenhotep and, obviously, Cid) have been upgraded to the point where they all take e69 or e70 to go up 25. (Yes, even Midas. Because Midas got gilded enough times that his damage is respectable--still lower than most heroes at the same level, but respectable enough that I did level him up.)
So instead of slowing down...I'm actually speeding up. I've got 70% of the achievements and am well on my way to earning some of the harder ones. (Though, I honestly think that the 35-clicks one is impossible for my laptop: I did an energized clickstop and then used my laptop mouse in conjunction with a wireless mouse. That should have been an absolute minimum of 22, but given that I clicked so fast my computer took three minutes to process thirty seconds of input, my rate of clicking was significantly higher than that and I don't think my computer's capable of registering that. It hasn't broken my 27 record, which I set ages ago using just my normal laptop mouse.)
Well, not hard, so much as grindy. As soon as I get the treasure chest one--well over half-way there!--I'm going to leave it on a boss level for a while. Not as much money is gonna be made, but that'll knock out the remaining two boss monster achievements in no time. (I actually think me having accidentally done this means my Desktop is one achievement ahead of my laptop on the boss monsters, albeit being behind in everything else.) The mouse-clicks achievements I'm moving slowly towards at a rate of 500 a day on average, thanks to clickstorm. (I don't use it that often, because I prefer my EDR routine.) And I've only got the filthy-rich achievement left, there. And I'm so close to the last hero-level-up achievement I could obtain it right now by leveling up my under-leveled Cid or Amenhotep, though I'm choosing not to since I'll get it within three major hero upgrades anyway.
In non-gaming news, fair warning that Christmas is coming up. What does that mean? Family vacation, of course. In my case, we head down to Oregon for a week, beginning the 23rd. Small problem, though...during our stay there, we have no internet. Well, we have internet...but it's dial-up, mid-90s-style (yes, that slow), and because it ties up the phone line, it can only be used at night. (And is hardwired into a desktop anyway.)
What's all this mean?
Well, that during the time of the vacation, I won't be able to update here...like, at all. I will, however, be writing every day, so upon my return, expect about seven blog posts which will be given the date they were written on as their name, even if they all appear on the same day.
