Anyway, not much new in my life to report. I'm doing a little bit of job search stuff (haven't fully gotten back into the swing of things, but I've started!), and also, I'm beginning to get some prep work done for that novel that I'm going to be writing. I'm guessing the actual novel itself will end up being around 400 pages, but that's to be expected:
I have like 30 characters. Over half of them are support characters, there to assist, but otherwise in the background. Many of them die. Quite a few, we don't get to learn everything about. But even given that, several characters have many, many pages worth of focus and backstory. There's four central protagonists: two travel together, two travel independently, and while they all meet up eventually, by and large, those three groups all have three different stories that are interwoven together.
Just the incomplete notes I have gathered push things to over 120 pages. The hardest challenge I'll have is making sure I don't botch the worldbuilding, and timing the backstories well. It'll be non-linear at some points, and placing those points will be difficult.
I do have a rough timeline though. A meets B at the beginning, seeking C. C travels on their own, and so does D. A and B run into half the world in this time, picking up people in two key locations. Eventually, D meets up with A and B, after having gotten a small following of their own. (All three groups pick up followers.)
At this point, there's a major conflict, but one where ultimately, all three of them end up with even more following them, which results in a large group, simply missing C. Who, upon joining, causes some further friction. After this is resolved, they encounter someone else, and they continue their quest.
First big fight, many characters die, and then they continue on. Some spoilers are revealed, fight ensues, more deaths as a consequence, and then the big twist gets thrown at the readers. Fights continue, at least two or three more characters die, and then we get the real climax (the previous one being what we were led to believe would be it, if not for the book not being even close to over), then the epilogue of the few survivors.
I just need to refine the last of the details to iron out things, and I'll have it done.
